Eating in Indianapolis at 3am means a chain. All six Denny's in the city are open 24 hours every day, and the ones on US 31 South and East 82nd Street share the top rating on this page at 4.4. For pancakes, IHOP on East 56th Street runs around the clock and rates 4.3. We found no independent restaurant in the city that stays open all night.

The Denny's, IHOPs and Waffle Houses are sit-down places, while the seven White Castles are slider stops where the dining room can close long before the drive-thru does. A table overnight or only a drive-thru
If you want to sit down, look at the Diner and Breakfast rows. The six Denny's are full dining rooms open every night, as are the three IHOPs. Waffle House on South Lynhurst Drive, near the airport, is the one to be careful with: one review reports it switching to takeout only from 8:30pm to 6am.
The White Castles are built around the window. The 16th Street location's dining room closes at 8pm, so overnight it is drive-thru only, and reviews of the Pendleton Pike store describe its 24 hours as drive-thru service. The "Open 24 hours" column is about the business being open, not the doors to the dining room.
White Castles that are 24 hours only at the weekend
Three rows are not every-night stops. East Washington Street runs around the clock on Friday and Saturday and closes at 11pm the rest of the week. Michigan Road is also Friday and Saturday, with 3am closings otherwise. East 82nd Street in Castleton goes 24 hours Thursday to Saturday, to 3am on Monday and Tuesday, and to midnight on Wednesday.
Two of those have an all-night Denny's close by. The Denny's at 8808 N Michigan Rd is a short way up the road from the Michigan Road White Castle, and the Denny's at 6288 E 82nd St covers Castleton every night.

White Castle on West 16th Street
A near north side White Castle on 16th Street, a couple of blocks west of Meridian. Regulars say the food tastes fresh, the service is quick and the drive-thru stays busy all night. The caveat worth knowing before you drive over: reviews report the dining room closes at 8pm, so overnight this is a drive-thru only stop. A few also mention hash browns that can taste like they were fried in old oil.
White Castle on Pendleton Pike
The northeast side White Castle, out on Pendleton Pike, and one of the better rated ones in the city. Reviews describe it as reliably stocked, open 24 hours for drive-thru orders, and staffed by people who check the order before it goes out the window. A sensible stop if you are coming in off the northeast side of 465 in the small hours.
White Castle on Shelby Street
The highest rated White Castle on this list, on Shelby Street on the south side. Reviewers mention hot, fresh food thanks to constant turnover and a drive-thru crew that asks which sauces you want. Service can be uneven from visit to visit, but the location clearly has a following: several reviews describe going back every year for the Valentine's Day dinner it puts on.
White Castle on East Washington Street
Out at the Cumberland end of Washington Street, this one runs around the clock only on Friday and Saturday nights. The rest of the week it closes at 11pm, so check the day before you drive out. Breakfast is served all day here and the sausage, egg and cheese gets good mentions, but this is also the lowest rated location in the set, with reviewers reporting orders that come back wrong.
White Castle on East 82nd Street
The Castleton White Castle, and one of very few overnight options in that stretch of the north side, though it only runs 24 hours from Thursday through Saturday. Monday and Tuesday it goes until 3am and Wednesday until midnight, which still beats most of the shopping strip around it. Reviews describe a newer build: a modern, spotless interior with two drive-thru lanes, free Wi-Fi, TVs and music.

A northwest side White Castle on Michigan Road that is around the clock on Friday and Saturday only; the other nights it runs to 3am, which covers most of what people want it for. The one Steak 'n Shake in Indianapolis I could confirm is still open around the clock: the downtown location and every other one I checked now closes at midnight or earlier. It sits at the far east end of Washington Street near Cumberland, and reviewers describe it as a better run store than most in the chain, with the Frisco melt the thing to order. Burgers, fries and shakes rather than a breakfast plate.
Waffle House on South Lynhurst Drive
The Waffle House by the airport, open 24 hours and the closest thing here to an all night diner counter. Reviews mention a two egg, bacon and hash brown plate with toast at $10.59 and suggest adding ham and cheese to the hash browns. Two things to know: it is small and gets slammed after events, and one review reports the location switching to takeout only from 8:30pm to 6am, so you may not be able to sit down overnight.
Waffle House on South Emerson Avenue
The best rated Waffle House on this list, on Emerson Avenue on the southeast side, open around the clock. Reviewers describe staff who feel like family, waffles that come out golden and fluffy and hash browns cooked properly crisp, and they name the Texas bacon and egg sandwich and the pecan waffles. There is plenty of parking, which is not nothing at 3am.
How we researched this
A restaurant is here only if it still runs 24 hours on at least some nights, checked against the chain's own store locator where there is one. That removed several names still on older lists: Olly's downtown now opens 7am to 3am, Leonardo's Mexican Food closes at 2am (4am on weekends), and of eleven Indianapolis Steak 'n Shakes, only one still shows 24 hours. The latest any independent place we found stays open is 2am to 4am on weekends. A Denny's on Kentucky Avenue is missing from Denny's own locator, one Waffle House is listed as delivery only and another publishes no hours we could read. McDonald's and Taco Bell set overnight hours store by store, and we couldn't confirm any.
Six more 24-hour White Castles exist, on Shelby Street, East Washington Street, East 38th Street, West Washington Street, South Emerson Avenue and West 38th Street, and were left out so one brand didn't fill the page. Ratings, rating counts and the food category come from each location's Restaurantji page so they compare like for like, and every row shows the same single-dollar price band there. These hours were checked in September 2026, and overnight hours are the first thing a short-staffed store cuts, so call before a late drive.
