Holiday Light Displays Near Boise, Idaho
Five of the seven light displays near Boise sit outside the city, in Meridian, Nampa and Caldwell, and the largest free one is Caldwell's Winter Wonderland at Indian Creek Plaza: around a million lights or more across a whole downtown, with the ice skating charged extra. Inside Boise, the main event is Winter Garden aGlow at the Idaho Botanical Garden, a walk through 500,000 to a million lights that costs adults $5 to $20 depending on the night.
The seven split first on how you pay. Four are free to wander into, aGlow and Lost in Christmas at Shindig Farms charge each person, and Christmas in Color at Roaring Springs in Meridian charges one price per car, starting at $35 plus fees. That carload ticket is also the only show here you watch from your seat. Everything else is on foot.

Paying per person, per car, or nothing
For a couple, the per-person shows can be the cheaper night: aGlow's adult price runs $5 to $20 by night and membership, with Sunday nights and the last few nights of December the discounted ones, and Shindig Farms lists $10 on Thursdays and $12 on Fridays and Saturdays. The $35 carload at Roaring Springs flips that: steep for two, better value the fuller the car. Shindig's zip lines, mega slides and wagon rides cost extra on top of the maze.
The free four are very different outings. Winter Wonderland and the Scentsy Commons campus are full displays worth a drive, while The Village at Meridian and the Downtown Boise Holiday Tree at The Grove Plaza are decorated streets you would pair with dinner or shopping rather than a trip of their own.
The biggest displays and what kind of evening each is
Three organizers claim around a million lights or more: Christmas in Color, Caldwell's downtown, and the Shindig Farms straw maze, whose eight-foot walls are wrapped in lights. aGlow and Scentsy sit in the 500,000 to one million band, and the 45-foot Grove Plaza tree is the smallest by a wide margin.
Size is only part of it. aGlow is garden paths with fire pits and seasonal bars, Shindig is a maze where getting lost is the point, Winter Wonderland adds an ice ribbon, carriage rides and a lit dragon over Indian Creek, and Scentsy is a company campus with no gate, no staff and the building closed.
Which displays run into January
Two free displays outlast the holidays. Caldwell runs from the weekend before Thanksgiving into the middle of January, and its 2026 season is already advertised as November 20 through mid-January 2027. Scentsy lights up at a mid-November ceremony and stays on well after New Year.
If you are driving to Christmas in Color, go to Roaring Springs on Overland Road. The show used to be at the Expo Idaho fairgrounds, and older directions still send people there.

Winter Garden aGlow at the Idaho Botanical Garden
The Idaho Botanical Garden's light show is the closest thing Boise has to a civic holiday tradition, now in its 29th season and hand-strung bulb by bulb by staff and volunteers across the garden's fifteen acres. You walk looping garden paths past themed stretches like the Candy Cane Forest and Gumdrop Grove, a community-built gingerbread house exhibit, fire pits and a couple of seasonal bars. It is the Garden's largest fundraiser of the year, which is part of why it costs more than anything else on this list and why the price moves around by night and by membership. Sunday nights and the last few nights of December are the discounted ones.
Christmas in Color at Roaring Springs
The valley's only real drive-through show, run by a Salt Lake City company that takes over the Roaring Springs water park parking lot each November. You stay in the car, tune the radio to their station and roll slowly through tunnels of colour synced to the music; the host park says the loop takes around thirty minutes. One ticket covers the whole carload, which makes it the best value here for a big group and the worst for a couple. Worth knowing that it moved from the Expo Idaho fairgrounds, so older directions and blog posts send you to the wrong place.
Winter Wonderland at Indian Creek Plaza
Caldwell lights its whole downtown rather than one site, and the result is the most ambitious free display in the region: lights over the trees, buildings and the creek bridges, a walk-through light tunnel, and a lit dragon arching out of Indian Creek. Indian Creek Plaza is the centre of it, with an outdoor ice ribbon that is charged separately, a singing Christmas tree, Santa visits and horse-drawn carriage rides. It also runs the longest of anything here, from the weekend before Thanksgiving into the middle of January. Downtown parking fills up on weekend evenings.
Lost in Christmas at Shindig Farms
A Nampa family farm that flips its eight-foot straw maze from Halloween to Christmas, wrapping the walls in lights and hanging illuminated canopies overhead. Getting lost is the whole point, and there are characters and photo setups hidden in the turns, plus zip lines, mega slides, a mechanical bull and horse-drawn wagon rides charged on top of admission. The farm prices each night by how busy it expects to be, so the calendar on their site is worth checking before you drive out. Of the paid options this is the furthest from central Boise.
Holiday Lights at Scentsy Commons
Scentsy decorates its Meridian corporate campus every year and opens the grounds to anyone, free, from a mid-November lighting ceremony until well after New Year. The signature piece is a 250-foot walk-through light tunnel; the paths loop past hundreds of lit trees and a 75-foot colour-changing tree. Because it is a company campus rather than an attraction there is no gate, no ticket and no staff on hand: the building is closed and portable toilets are the only facilities. It stays lit later into January than anything else here, which makes it the easy answer once the ticketed shows have closed.
The Village at Meridian
An open-air shopping centre that dresses its streets and Fountain Square for the season, with a big tree lit in late November and the fountain show run to holiday music. This is the most casual entry on the list: you are really pairing lights with dinner, a film or some shopping rather than making a trip of it, which is exactly why it suits a short outing with small children. Nothing is ticketed and you can wander as long as you like. Local guides all list it as a lights stop, but the centre publishes almost nothing about the display itself, so set your expectations at handsome decoration rather than a dedicated show.
Downtown Boise Holiday Tree at The Grove Plaza
Downtown Boise's holiday centrepiece is a 45-foot tree on the Grove Plaza, a gift from Boise Cascade that is lit at a free public ceremony with candles and live music, then stays on through the season. The blocks around it are decorated too, so it works as an evening stroll that ends in a restaurant rather than as a destination display. A vendor market runs on the plaza on Wednesdays through December. It is by far the smallest display in this table, and the one you are most likely to come across without planning to.
How we researched this
This is close to the whole public roster around Boise rather than a shortlist: Boise Christmas Lights, the local site that maps every display, counted eight public or commercial displays in its final 2025 tally. We kept to places you go and look at across the season, so the trolley tour, the parades, single-night tree lightings and the indoor Festival of Trees fundraisers are out. Home displays are out too (that site mapped 142 houses in 2025), since a private house has no operator and no promise it will light up again. Santa's Merry & Bright Light Show, a drive-through listed in 2024, had no address and no sign of a 2025 season.
The table gives no dates or nightly hours, because in September 2026 nearly every schedule online was last season's. With several operators' pages offline between seasons, a few cells rest on local guides such as Boise With Kids. Shindig's price comes from one, and the farm's own 2026 calendar already shows $11 to $15 a night; a guide also lists Christmas in Color at $44.99 a vehicle against the host park's $35. The Village at Meridian publishes no light count, so its size is left empty. Price the three paid shows again when tickets go on sale.
