Thirteen hotels in South San Francisco accept pets, and which one works mostly depends on how big your dog is. The two Sonesta hotels on Veterans Blvd set no weight limit and take two pets, and the Fairfield by Marriott on West Harris Avenue allows one pet up to 100 lbs. Everywhere else the ceiling is 75 lbs or lower, down to 30 lbs at the DoubleTree by Hilton on South Airport Blvd.
After weight, the hotels split on how the pet fee is charged. Seven of them raise the fee once a stay runs longer, so the Pet Fee column shows only the opening number: the Sonesta ES Suites charges $75 for up to seven nights, while its Sonesta Select neighbor charges $75 for the first night and $25 for each night after. Parking, from $15 to $45 a night, can cost more than the pet does.

Which hotels take a dog over 50 lbs
Six hotels here cap pets at 50 lbs or less: the Four Points by Sheraton, Home2 Suites, Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites and Larkspur Landing at 50, and the DoubleTree at 30. Hotel Focus SFO allows 60. That leaves six options for a 70 lb dog: the Sonesta Select and Sonesta ES Suites (no limit), the Fairfield (100 lbs), and the La Quinta, AC Hotel and Hilton Garden Inn (75 lbs each).
If you travel with two animals, cross off the Fairfield, the Four Points and Hotel Focus, which each allow one pet per room. And if your dog is close to 75 lbs, the Hilton Garden Inn is worth a call: Hilton's own page says 75 lbs, while Expedia lists 70 for the same hotel.
What the pet fee covers on a longer stay
The fee structures on this strip vary more than the numbers suggest. The Home2 Suites, Hampton Inn and Larkspur Landing all charge $75 for one to four nights and $125 from the fifth. The Embassy Suites charges $100 per pet for up to three nights and $150 from the fourth, so two dogs cost twice as much. The flat per-stay hotels are easier to plan around: $75 at the Hilton Garden Inn, $100 at the Four Points and Fairfield, $125 at the DoubleTree.
The AC Hotel is the one to confirm before booking. Its own line on Marriott's page reads $150 per stay, plus $20 a night if extra cleaning is needed, but another field on the same page lists a $50 per night pet fee.
Airport shuttles and parking
On a row of hotels named for SFO, only six run a free airport shuttle: the two Sonestas, La Quinta, Hotel Focus, Embassy Suites and the DoubleTree. The Four Points is about a mile from the airport and still has none. The Fairfield's shuttle is shared with three other hotels and costs $6 per person each way. If you are driving in with the dog and leaving the car, parking runs from $15 at the Sonesta ES Suites to $45 at the Embassy Suites, and over a stay of several nights it often adds up to more than the pet fee.

Sonesta Select San Francisco Airport Oyster Point Waterfront
A full-service hotel on the Oyster Point waterfront, three miles from SFO, with a restaurant and bar, meeting space and a free airport shuttle running 5:00am to 11:30pm. Its pet policy is the loosest on this list: no breed or weight restriction at all, two pets to a room, which makes it one of the few places here that will take a large dog. The trade-off is the fee shape, $75 for the first night and $25 for every night after, so a week costs more here than at the flat-fee hotels a few blocks away. The hotel says parking fees apply but does not publish the rate.
Sonesta ES Suites San Francisco Airport Oyster Point Waterfront
An all-suite extended-stay hotel next door to its Sonesta Select sibling, built for longer trips: every suite has a full kitchen, breakfast is free and hot, and there is an outdoor pool and hot tub. Like the Select it carries no breed or weight restriction and takes two pets, and it has the cheapest published parking here at $15 a night plus a free SFO shuttle. The pet fee is a flat $75 for stays up to a week, which makes it one of the better-value choices for a multi-night stay with a big dog, though it jumps to $150 once you pass seven nights.
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Francisco Airport N
The cheapest way into this list if your stay is short: $25 a night capped at $75 for the whole stay, for up to two dogs or cats of 75 lbs or less. It sits about a mile from SFO and runs free shuttles to both the airport and BART, plus free breakfast, an outdoor pool and a 24-hour fitness center. Two things to know before booking: only rooms in the North Building take pets, so ask when you reserve, and the hotel does not publish a self-parking rate.
AC Hotel San Francisco Airport/Oyster Point Waterfront
The design-led Marriott on the Oyster Point waterfront, with an indoor pool, a European-style breakfast and a bar leaning on tapas, sitting right on the San Francisco Bay Trail, which is a real advantage when the dog needs a walk. It takes two pets of up to 75 lbs, but it is the most expensive pet stay here and it runs no airport shuttle, so budget for parking at $25 a day or a rideshare to SFO. Read the fee carefully: the property's own line says $150 per stay plus $20 a night if extra cleaning is needed, while a second field on the same Marriott page states a $50 per night pet fee, so confirm the number at booking.
Hotel Focus SFO
An independent hotel two miles north of SFO, and the only non-chain property on this list. It runs a free airport shuttle roughly every 45 minutes in two blocks of hours, morning and evening, and parking is $16 a night, among the cheapest here. The pet policy is the most restrictive on the list in one respect: one dog only, up to 60 lbs. The fee is $75 covering the first five days and then $10 a night, which works out well for a short trip and stays reasonable on a long one.
Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Suites San Francisco Airport
The closest hotel here to the airport, about a mile from SFO on South Airport Boulevard, with renovated suites, a fitness center and a bistro doing breakfast and evening plates. It is a one-pet, 50 lb property with a flat $100 fee for the stay, so the cost is predictable but the door is closed to a second dog or a big one. Despite the airport location it runs no shuttle of its own and points guests to taxis, rideshare and transit instead; self-parking is $20 a day.
Home2 Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport North
An all-suite Hilton on Gateway Boulevard aimed at longer stays: every suite has a kitchenette, breakfast is free and hot, and there is a combined laundry and fitness room plus an outdoor patio. There is no airport shuttle, which matters on this stretch of Gateway, and self-parking is $25 a day.
Hampton Inn San Francisco-Airport
A small 100-room Hampton on Gateway Boulevard, straightforward and among the cheaper stays in the cluster, with a fitness center, EV charging and the lowest parking rate of the Hilton properties here at $19.44 a day. Pets are two per room up to 50 lbs, at $75 for one to four nights and $125 beyond that. It runs no airport shuttle despite the name, so plan on a rideshare for the two-mile hop to SFO.
Embassy Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport Oyster Point
The most hotel-for-your-money option here if you use what is included: two-room suites around a full atrium, a free made-to-order breakfast, a nightly reception, an indoor pool and a complimentary SFO shuttle running morning and afternoon-to-midnight blocks. Pets are two per suite, dogs only, up to 50 lbs, at $100 per pet for up to three nights and $150 from the fourth, so the cost is per pet rather than per room. Parking is the sting at $45 a day, by far the highest on this list.
Larkspur Landing Extended Stay Suites South San Francisco
An all-suite extended-stay hotel on Gateway Boulevard built for long trips: every suite has a full kitchen with a full-sized fridge and stovetop, there is on-site laundry, breakfast in the lobby daily and cookies baked in the afternoon. It takes two dogs up to 50 lbs each, at $75 for one to four nights and $125 from the fifth, and it is one of the few here that is explicitly dogs-only rather than dogs and cats. Neither the hotel's own pages nor the listing sites state an airport shuttle or a parking rate, so ask about both if either matters.
Hilton Garden Inn San Francisco Airport North
A mid-size Hilton Garden Inn on Gateway Boulevard with its own restaurant and bar, a fitness center and an outdoor terrace. Its draw for dog owners is the weight ceiling: 75 lbs, the joint-highest of the Hilton properties here, for two pets at a flat $75 for the stay. Set against that, there is no airport shuttle, breakfast costs extra, and parking is $25 a day. Note that Hilton's own page states a 75 lb limit while Expedia lists 70 lbs for the same hotel, so confirm if your dog is near the line.
DoubleTree by Hilton San Francisco South Airport Blvd
A recently refreshed DoubleTree on South Airport Boulevard with a complimentary but limited-hours SFO shuttle, a fitness center, meeting rooms and $19 a day parking, the second cheapest here. The catch is the pet rule: 30 lbs is the lowest weight ceiling on this list and the fee is $125 for the stay, the highest flat fee, with Expedia also listing a refundable $125 deposit on top. It is a good pick for a small dog and effectively closed to anything medium or larger.
Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites San Francisco Airport Oyster Point Area
A Fairfield on West Harris Avenue, about 3.7 miles from SFO, with free hot breakfast, EV charging and $22 a day parking. It has the highest weight ceiling on this list by a distance, 100 lbs, so it is the obvious first call for a genuinely big dog, but it allows only one pet per room and charges a flat $100 for the stay. Its airport shuttle is shared with three other hotels, runs in two shifts, and is not free: $6 per person each way.
How we researched this
The aim was every hotel inside South San Francisco city limits that accepts pets, which on this stretch of Gateway Boulevard, Oyster Point and South Airport Boulevard comes to thirteen. The Best Western Plus Grosvenor and the Holiday Inn Express were left off because their own pages say pets are not allowed; the Comfort Inn & Suites and the Rodeway Inn because their booking listings say the same. The Homewood Suites that turns up in local searches is in Brisbane, and two other hotels named for San Francisco Airport are in Burlingame and Millbrae, so they are out of area rather than out of favor. Vacation rentals and apartments listed next to hotels on pet directories were not counted.
Pet policies come from each hotel's own brand page wherever the hotel publishes one. Directory listings were used only for La Quinta's policy and the Home2 weight limit, since elsewhere a directory had the DoubleTree down for big dogs when the hotel's own page says 30 lbs. Nightly room rates change daily on this strip and are left out; the pet fee is the published number that separates these hotels. The Sonesta Select, La Quinta and Larkspur Landing publish no parking rate, and nothing we found says whether Larkspur runs a shuttle, so those cells are empty.
